SWITZERLAND; UNITED KINGDOM —Swiss connectivity solution provider HUBER+SUHNER has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Connected Intelligence unit from UK-based Motion Applied, subject to regulatory clearances and standard closing conditions. The targeted business, headquartered in Woking, employs roughly 45 staff members and specializes in the Fleet Connect platform originally developed for motorsport environments. Following completion, the division will be carved out from Motion Applied and merged into HUBER+SUHNER’s Transportation division.
HUBER+SUHNER manufactures components and systems for electrical and optical connectivity across transportation, communication, and industrial markets. Motion Applied develops specialized data transmission and electrification technologies engineered for high-performance mobile environments.
Integrating digital platform software with physical infrastructure marks a strategic pivot for transit hardware manufacturers. By combining Motion Applied's Fleet Connect software with its existing portfolio of antennas, switches, and specialized cabling, HUBER+SUHNER transitions from a traditional hardware supplier to a comprehensive systems provider. The two entities have previously collaborated on network deployments for major rail operators, including Deutsche Bahn in Germany, Amtrak and Brightline in the United States, alongside Avanti West Coast, Network Rail, and c2c in the United Kingdom.
Modern passenger and freight operations increasingly rely on real-time data transmission for onboard passenger Wi-Fi, telemetry, and train-to-ground operational monitoring.
