South Korea's Hyundai Engineering has won an engineering and procurement contract from Kazakhstan's state gas operator to build a 5 billion cubic meter annual capacity gas processing plant at the Karachaganak complex.

Kazakhstan's state-owned gas operator, JSC NC QazaqGaz, has issued a letter of award to Hyundai Engineering for the construction of a new natural gas processing facility. Situated at the Karachaganak Processing Complex, approximately 1,260 kilometers northwest of Astana, the plant is designed to process 5 billion cubic meters of raw gas per annum. Hyundai Engineering, a Seoul-based global engineering, procurement, and construction firm specializing in large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, will spearhead the engineering and procurement phases. The company will execute the contract alongside its consortium partner, a regional unit of the Italian infrastructure contractor SICIM.

This development underscores Kazakhstan's strategic initiative to monetize its extensive upstream hydrocarbon resources and boost domestic processing capacity. For Central Asia, the expansion of high-capacity processing infrastructure is critical to transforming raw energy reserves into higher-value products for both regional consumption and export markets. The project reflects a broader regional trend of utilizing international engineering partnerships to modernize aging industrial energy frameworks.

For global contractors and institutional investors, the contract highlights the sustained capital expenditure directed toward Central Asian infrastructure. By expanding its operational footprint in Kazakhstan, Hyundai Engineering reinforces its competitive positioning in a geography where it has successfully executed major petrochemical and energy assets. This ongoing infrastructure buildup offers significant downstream opportunities for manufacturing supply chains, logistical networks, and specialized engineering service providers across the broader Eurasian energy sector.
