India allocates 80 billion rupees for 160 km Odisha coastal highway to enhance port connectivity

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India is executing the construction of the Rameshwar-Paradeep Coastal Highway in the eastern state of Odisha, representing a total capital outlay exceeding 80 billion rupees. The strategic infrastructure project spans more than 160 kilometers and will traverse four major coastal districts, namely Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur. The planned roadway is designed to integrate nine high-priority economic nodes and five logistics hubs into a unified transport corridor. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is the federal executive agency charged with designing, building, and maintaining India's national highway network and formulating national road transport policies.

This large-scale infrastructure project addresses critical connectivity gaps along Odisha’s coastal economic zone by linking industrial, maritime, and tourism hubs. By establishing a direct, high-capacity road artery connecting inland regions with the major deep-water port ecosystem at Paradeep, the highway mitigates longstanding supply chain bottlenecks and accelerates freight circulation across the state. Furthermore, the route seamlessly connects renowned cultural, religious, and environmental destinations, establishing a robust foundation for regional economic diversification beyond traditional industrial and extraction activities.
