Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) infrastructure project in Sri Sathya Sai district, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹158.03 billion, expected to generate 7,500 jobs and strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu have laid the foundation stone for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) infrastructure project in Sri Sathya Sai district, according to official disclosures.

The project, valued at ₹158.03 billion, spans approximately 650 acres in Puttaparthi and includes an Aircraft Integration and Flight Testing Centre to be developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under DRDO.

The facility will support integration, testing, validation, and certification activities for India’s indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter programme.

This development matters because the AMCA programme is a key pillar of India’s push for self-reliance in defence production under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The defence minister noted that only a few countries possess such flight-testing centres, and India has now joined that league.

The project is expected to generate approximately 7,500 high-skilled direct employment opportunities over its lifecycle and catalyse the growth of an aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem in the Rayalaseema region. Industries impacted include aerospace manufacturing, defence electronics, and precision engineering.

Regional stakeholders include the Andhra Pradesh government, which has extended land and infrastructure support, and private sector consortia shortlisted for the AMCA production model, including L&T with BEL and Dynamatic Technologies, Tata Advanced Systems, and Bharat Forge with BEML and Data Patterns.

For investors and contractors, the project signals long-term opportunities in India’s defence supply chain, though execution will depend on prototype development timelines, with first prototype expected by 2028 and squadron induction targeted for 2035.

The AMCA programme is India’s indigenous fifth-generation, twin-engine stealth multirole fighter aircraft programme designed for the Indian Air Force and Navy.

The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under DRDO is the lead development agency.
