India rolls out upgraded Rajmarg Pravesh portal to digitise highway access and infrastructure approvals

India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced an upgraded Rajmarg Pravesh portal to simplify approvals for highway access and infrastructure projects. The digital platform consolidates multiple permissions into a single interface, aiming to accelerate project clearances and improve transparency for businesses and public agencies.

India’s government has introduced an enhanced version of the Rajmarg Pravesh online platform designed to centralise approvals required for projects connected to the country’s National Highway network. According to official statements, the system enables applicants to request access permissions and No Objection Certificates through a single digital portal, replacing fragmented procedures that previously required multiple submissions.

The updated platform allows businesses, government bodies and individuals to apply for approvals related to roadside infrastructure such as fuel stations, food outlets, rest facilities, residential developments and other wayside amenities along National Highways. It also facilitates permissions for installing or crossing highway corridors with utilities including water pipelines, gas pipelines, optical fibre networks and power transmission lines.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways oversees the planning, development and regulation of India’s road transport system, including the National Highway network that forms the backbone of intercity logistics and passenger mobility. Digitising this approval process is expected to reduce administrative delays that often affect infrastructure development and commercial investments linked to highway corridors. Faster clearances could support expansion of roadside service ecosystems, logistics hubs and utility networks, particularly as India continues to expand its highway network. For infrastructure developers, energy distributors and telecom operators, the streamlined process may lower regulatory friction when deploying assets along major transport routes. The initiative also aligns with broader government efforts to digitise permitting systems and accelerate infrastructure delivery critical to economic growth and freight mobility.
