The Ministry of Defence has finalized contracts worth approximately 9.75 billion INR for the acquisition of TRAWL assemblies for T-72 and T-90 tanks. Partnering with BEML and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics, the initiative aims to enhance the Indian Army's minefield breaching speed and promote indigenous defense manufacturing.

The Indian Ministry of Defence has finalized procurement agreements valued at approximately 9.75 billion INR for specialized TRAWL assemblies designed for the Army's T-72 and T-90 main battle tank fleets. According to official disclosures, the contracts were awarded to Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), a public sector undertaking, and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Pvt. Limited.

These systems are essential for armored formations, enabling the rapid creation of vehicle-safe lanes through anti-tank minefields. This development is significant as it directly addresses a critical operational gap in frontline mobility and survival. By integrating indigenous mine-clearing hardware, the Indian Army gains the ability to maintain offensive momentum in contested environments without relying on slower, external engineering support. The move is a strategic step toward self-reliance in high-end military equipment, reducing dependence on foreign components for Soviet-origin platforms. From an industrial perspective, the project shifts defense spending toward the domestic private and public sectors, specifically impacting the heavy engineering and hydraulics industries. Strategic implications for investors and businesses include a predictable demand for specialized components, which is expected to catalyze growth within the local MSME ecosystem.

As India continues to modernize its aging armored divisions, such contracts provide long-term stability for Tier-2 and Tier-3 suppliers. This procurement also reinforces the national policy of industrial indigenization, signaling to international partners that future hardware upgrades will prioritize local production and employment generation over direct imports.
