Indian Cabinet approves INR 144.47 billion Elevated Corridor Project to decongest Varanasi

The Indian Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has cleared a 46.039-km six-lane elevated transport corridor along the Ganga in Varanasi. Valued at INR 144.47 billion, the initiative connects National Highway-19 with the Varanasi Ring Road to enhance urban mobility and mitigate traffic congestion.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned the construction of a 46.039-kilometer, six-lane elevated transport corridor along the Ganga in Varanasi, with a total financial outlay of INR 144.47 billion.

This major infrastructural undertaking is designed to link National Highway-19 directly with the Varanasi Ring Road, establishing a robust arterial bypass intended to alleviate severe urban congestion and streamline regional transport flows. The engineering scope comprises a six-lane elevated carriageway, an advanced cable-stayed bridge, and specialized structural elements including an extradosed foot-over-bridge and major bridge crossings.
