INDIA; SOUTH AFRICA —Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has secured two major renewable energy execution contracts together valued at over INR 9.85 billion. The scope includes a domestic Balance of System contract for a 534.3 MWp solar project in Rajasthan, India, awarded by a new independent power producer client. Simultaneously, the company bagged an international turnkey EPC wrap contract for two Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities in South Africa, providing a combined energy storage capacity of 616 MWh (308 MWh each) from an existing client based in the Middle East.
This dual win underscores a growing multi-regional demand for integrated renewable assets that pair large-scale photovoltaic generation with advanced grid-stabilization capabilities. The addition of substantial battery storage capacity in South Africa addresses critical grid reliability needs, while the Rajasthan deployment contributes directly to decarbonization efforts by mitigating an estimated 0.80 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions upon operational commissioning.
Headquartered in India, Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) operates as a global pure-play renewable engineering, procurement, and construction solutions provider. The organization manages a global utility-scale solar, hybrid, and wind portfolio exceeding 28.7 GWp alongside an operations and maintenance footprint of 18.3 GWp across 28 countries.
The awards reflect a broader market shift among energy developers toward unified EPC partners capable of executing both traditional solar assets and complex storage infrastructure across emerging markets. For utility operators and investors, combining utility-scale solar development in Asia with large-scale storage deployment in Africa represents a strategic alignment with global energy transition goals and grid modernization mandates.
