L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions has secured a Limited Notice to Proceed from DVC CIL Power Private Ltd for the engineering, procurement, and construction of a 1,600 MW thermal power plant in Jharkhand, advancing India's baseload energy capabilities.

INDIA —A joint venture between Damodar Valley Corporation and Coal India Ltd, named DVC CIL Power Private Ltd, has issued a Limited Notice to Proceed to L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions for the primary plant package of a 1,600 MW thermal power facility located in Chandrapura, Jharkhand. Under the terms of the engagement, the infrastructure vertical will oversee the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of two 800 MW ultra-supercritical units. The project scope encompasses boilers, steam turbines, generators, and electrostatic precipitators, alongside complete civil, mechanical, control, instrumentation, and electrical work. Formal authorization to commence full-scale execution remains contingent upon the completion of the initial notice phase and the acquisition of mandatory environmental clearances.

This development signifies a strategic push to strengthen India's power grid amid rapidly rising demand driven by industrial growth and urban expansion. By deploying advanced ultra-supercritical technology, the project aims to deliver higher operational efficiency and reduced emissions per unit of power generated compared to legacy thermal assets. Securing this major order reinforces L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions' market positioning in thermal power infrastructure and highlights the continuing integration of high-efficiency fossil generation to maintain grid stability alongside renewable expansion.

The agreement benefits thermal equipment manufacturers, power utilities, and industrial sectors across eastern India by supporting supply chain demand and enhancing regional energy security. For energy markets and investors, the order underscores the continuing capital allocation toward modern baseload capacity in developing economies. It demonstrates that highly efficient thermal technologies remain essential for supporting economic expansion while transitioning toward lower emission intensity in heavy industries.
