INDIA —Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a state-owned Indian enterprise specializing in rail infrastructure construction and project execution, has secured a significant contract from domestic mining giant NMDC Limited. The mandate involves engineering a buffer stockpile and automated blending yard at the strategic port city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Valued at INR 29.77 billion inclusive of taxes, the large-scale industrial project is structured under a 42-month execution deadline and is engineered to handle an annual capacity of 10 million tonnes.
This capital deployment represents a critical infrastructure upgrade for India's mineral logistics ecosystem. By establishing robust storage and processing capabilities at a primary coastal transit point, the facility directly addresses historical bottlenecks in high-volume cargo handling. For industrial enterprises and mineral exporters operating within the region, the automated blending yard will significantly enhance grade consistency, stabilize downstream supply chains, and minimize demurrage costs at one of India's most vital maritime freight gateways.
From a strategic investment perspective, the project underscores an intensifying institutional focus on upgrading heavy transport-to-port infrastructure to support sovereign export ambitions. For engineering, procurement, and construction stakeholders, this multi-billion INR allocation demonstrates the sustained pipeline of public sector asset modernization. The project is poised to drive efficiency gains for metallurgical and manufacturing sectors that rely heavily on seamless, bulk material processing and predictable mineral supply lines.
