Indian Railways has approved a Rs.2.20 billion project to upgrade the electric traction system on the 102-route-kilometer Wadi-Raichur double-line section. Converting the corridor to a 2×25 kV system will strengthen power infrastructure, increase freight and passenger capacity, and improve operational efficiency along the Mumbai-Chennai high-density network.

The Ministry of Railways has approved a Rs.2.20 billion infrastructure project to upgrade the traction system along the Wadi-Raichur section of the South Central Railway network, according to official disclosures. The project entails converting the existing 1×25 kV electric traction configuration to an advanced 2×25 kV system across a 102 route-kilometer, 204 track-kilometer double-line stretch. Indian Railways, operated by the Ministry of Railways, is India's state-owned national railway enterprise managing and modernizing the nation's rail transit infrastructure. South Central Railway is a major zonal division administering key freight and passenger routes across central and southern India.

The Wadi-Raichur railway line forms a critical link in High Density Network (HDN) Route-7, an essential commercial trunk corridor connecting western and southern industrial regions along the Mumbai-Pune-Wadi-Raichur-Guntakal-Kadapa-Renigunta-Chennai route. Upgrading to a 2×25 kV traction system significantly enhances electrical power transmission efficiency along this double-line section, enabling the network to handle substantially higher power loads over long distances. The transition reduces voltage drops, improves power grid stability, and allows the railway to operate heavier freight trains and higher-frequency passenger services with enhanced schedule reliability.
