The Ministry of Railways has approved infrastructure projects exceeding ₹12 billion to deploy the KAVACH 4.0 safety system and upgrade communication networks. These initiatives focus on enhancing collision avoidance technology across Southern India and establishing a dual-fibre backbone in the Central and Gujarat regions.

The Ministry of Railways has authorized a series of infrastructure upgrades valued at over ₹12 billion to modernize its safety and communication frameworks. According to official disclosures, the projects involve the deployment of KAVACH 4.0, an indigenous automatic train protection system, across 548 kilometers of high-traffic corridors in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. This technology is designed to prevent collisions by automatically applying brakes in critical scenarios, significantly mitigating the risk of human error. In tandem with safety enhancements, the Ministry is investing more than ₹6,000 million to establish a robust dual-path optical fibre network across all five divisions of the Central Railway. A similar communication upgrade, costing over ₹3 billion, will be implemented in the Rajkot and Bhavnagar divisions of Gujarat.

The Ministry of Railways is the statutory body responsible for the management and modernization of India's national rail network, focusing on safety, capacity, and technological integration. These developments represent a strategic shift toward a digital-first rail ecosystem. For telecommunications and infrastructure firms, the move to install overhead ground wire systems offers significant opportunities, as the Ministry intends to lease surplus fibre capacity to generate non-fare revenue. Furthermore, the systematic rollout of KAVACH 4.0 provides a boost to the domestic electronics and engineering sectors. For decision-makers and investors, this investment reduces operational risks on busy corridors and establishes the necessary infrastructure for future-ready, autonomous train control systems.
