Sri Lanka has approved a 2.27 billion LKR contract for a partnership between India’s Jyoti Structure and Sri Lanka’s Hayleys Fentons. The project involves constructing a 28-kilometer high-voltage transmission line to integrate renewable wind energy from the Mannar region into the national grid.

The Sri Lankan government has authorized a bilateral joint venture to develop critical infrastructure for the island's renewable energy sector. A partnership comprising India-based Jyoti Structure Limited and Sri Lanka’s Hayleys Fentons Limited was awarded the tender to construct a 220 KV double-circuit transmission line. This 28-kilometer link will connect the Mannar and Mullikulam grid substations, facilitating the distribution of wind-generated power from the northern province. Jyoti Structure Limited is an Indian engineering firm specializing in power transmission and distribution, while Hayleys Fentons Limited is a longstanding Sri Lankan provider of engineering and solar solutions. The contract, valued at 2,270 million Sri Lankan rupees excluding taxes, was finalized after a competitive process involving five bidders. The joint venture was identified as the most technically and financially viable candidate to execute the project.

This development represents a significant step in optimizing renewable energy evacuation. By upgrading infrastructure in the Mannar region, the project addresses current bottlenecks in power transmission, allowing for a more stable integration of clean energy into the state utility network.

For stakeholders in the energy and construction sectors, this highlights the growing reliance on cross-border technical partnerships to achieve national sustainability goals. Investors should monitor the continued modernization of the Sri Lankan grid, which presents long-term opportunities for firms specializing in high-voltage equipment and renewable energy logistics.
