Invictus Energy has awarded a key well services contract to SLB for the Musuma-1 exploration well in Zimbabwe's Cabora Bassa Basin. Spudding is planned for November 2026 as wellpad construction and rig maintenance advance.

ZIMBABWE Invictus Energy has secured a key well services agreement with SLB for its upcoming Musuma-1 exploration well within the Cabora Bassa Basin in Zimbabwe. The contract encompasses specialized drilling technology, equipment, and operational support ahead of the target spud date scheduled for November 2026. Onsite civil engineering activities, including the construction of the wellpad and access roads, are currently underway, alongside maintenance work on the Exalo Rig 202 drill rig to ensure operational readiness before mobilization.

This contract award marks a critical operational milestone for energy development in Southern Africa, cementing the logistical framework for one of the region's prominent onshore exploration targets. By re-engaging SLB following previous campaigns in the basin, the operator secures technical continuity and specialized oilfield technology necessary to mitigate operational risks in a frontier basin environment. Successful execution could validate the commercial viability of the Eastern Margin play and unlock substantial new hydrocarbon resources in Zimbabwe.

The progression of the Cabora Bassa exploration campaign directly impacts the upstream oil and gas sector and the broader energy supply outlook across Sub-Saharan Africa. For regional industries facing persistent power generation deficits, the potential maturation of domestic natural gas and condensate resources offers a prospective long-term energy security alternative. Furthermore, the localized civil works and logistical requirements generate commercial opportunities for domestic infrastructure, heavy equipment, and civil engineering service providers in Zimbabwe.

From a strategic perspective, the project serves as a key catalyst for natural gas exploration investments in non-traditional African basins. Demonstrating progress toward drilling reinforces investor confidence in regional resource development and high-impact exploration portfolios. Invictus Energy Ltd is an Australia-headquartered independent upstream oil and gas exploration company focused on developing energy assets in Sub-Saharan Africa, primarily holding equity in the Cabora Bassa Basin project.
