BENIN; SAUDI ARABIA —The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the government of Benin have concluded co-financing agreements amounting to €326 million to support critical national development initiatives. The formalization of these accords took place during high-level bilateral discussions held alongside the annual multilateral meetings in Bangkok, highlighting continued institutional support for West African growth priorities.
The package allocates €306.89 million toward the total €576.06 million Godomey-Ouidah-Hillacondji Road Capacity Expansion and Upgrading Project. Additionally, €19.17 million has been committed to the €20.70 million Sustainable Intensification of Legume-Based Systems for Soil Fertility, Agricultural Resilience, and Food Security Project.
These investments directly target infrastructure bottlenecks and agricultural productivity within the region. Upgrading the major transit route facilitates improved commercial movement along the strategic Abidjan-Lagos corridor, while the agricultural initiative addresses long-term food security and climate adaptation across five distinct development zones.
For regional stakeholders, commercial enterprises, and agricultural producers, these projects represent vital enhancements to logistical efficiency and resource sustainability. Investors and contractors monitoring West African infrastructure and agribusiness markets can anticipate expanded opportunities as procurement and implementation phases advance.
