Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Group, will lead a high-level delegation to Brunei Darussalam from October 5 to 7, 2026. The visit centers on launching the inaugural IsDB Group–Brunei Darussalam Country Engagement Framework for 2026–2028 to support the nation's economic diversification and long-term development targets.

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM —Multilateral development cooperation in Southeast Asia is advancing as the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) solidifies its strategic partnership with Brunei Darussalam. According to official announcements, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the IsDB Group, will lead a high-level delegation on an official visit to Brunei from October 5 to 7, 2026. During the visit, Dr. Al Jasser is scheduled for a royal audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, alongside strategic dialogues with senior government officials.

A critical milestone of the diplomatic and economic mission will be the launch of the first IsDB Group-Brunei Darussalam Country Engagement Framework for 2026–2028. The framework establishes a structured strategic platform to guide institutional cooperation, facilitating targeted engagement across shared priority areas. By leveraging the IsDB Group’s broader financial capabilities, knowledge sharing, and technical expertise, the initiative aims to systematically align multilateral support with Brunei's long-term national development aspirations.

From an economic policy perspective, deepening the institutional relationship directly supports Brunei Darussalam's structural push toward economic diversification. Establishing a formalized, multi-year engagement framework allows sovereign authorities to systematically channel Islamic finance, advisory services, and capacity-building resources into high-priority sectors, reducing the country's historical reliance on hydrocarbon revenues and fostering new avenues for sustainable, diversified growth.

For international development consultants, regional policymakers, and institutional investors, the rollout of the 2026–2028 framework signals a clear pipeline for targeted developmental programs and cross-border cooperation. Enhancing strategic alignment with the IsDB opens up specialized financing mechanisms and technical assistance for critical domestic sectors, accelerating the implementation of public sector modernization and sustainable infrastructure initiatives.
