Japan's MIC commissions ACCESS to pioneer All-Photonics Network integration for overseas AI data centers

The Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has awarded a research contract to ACCESS and its subsidiary IP Infusion to implement energy-efficient optical network architectures within overseas artificial intelligence data centers.

According to official announcements, Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has commissioned technology provider ACCESS to execute a specialized research project focused on deploying advanced optical networking systems inside global artificial intelligence data center hubs. The project will be managed alongside its United States subsidiary, IP Infusion, leveraging the firm’s proprietary open network operating systems to test external, internal, and distributed architectural models.

ACCESS is a Tokyo-headquartered multinational digital software firm specializing in embedded operating systems, while IP Infusion develops open-source routing and switching solutions for global telecommunications infrastructure. This initiative aims to validate All-Photonics Network infrastructure, which routes immense bandwidth natively via light paths to eliminate energy-intensive electronic processing steps. The research addresses massive energy bottlenecks and highly oligopolistic supply networks currently dominated by single-source graphics hardware producers.

The testing parameters directly impact optical component vendors, multinational cloud infrastructure providers, AI hardware manufacturers, and regional telecommunications operators across North America and Asia.

For strategic investors and global tech enterprises, this development signals a state-backed push by Japan to deconcentrate the generative computing supply chain. By commercializing low-latency open architectures, the project intends to bypass hardware vendor lock-in, alleviate geographic land and power constraints through distributed remote compute fabrics, and provide Japanese engineering firms with a clear pipeline to capture top-tier market share in the rapidly expanding high-end international data logistics market.
