VEON's Pakistani subsidiary Jazz has acquired 190 MHz of mobile spectrum in a government auction that tripled available bandwidth to 754 MHz. The USD 239.5 million acquisition, payable in rupees from 2027, supports Jazz's network expansion and digital services rollout across Pakistan's growing connectivity market.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has concluded a mobile spectrum auction that increased available bandwidth for operators from 274 MHz to 754 MHz, according to official results. VEON's local subsidiary Jazz secured the largest allocation of 190 MHz across multiple bands, including 50 MHz in the 3500 MHz band, 70 MHz in the 2600 MHz band, 50 MHz in the 2300 MHz band, and 20 MHz in the 700 MHz band. Jazz, operating under the brand JazzWorld, is Pakistan's leading connectivity provider serving over 100 million users including 74 million mobile customers.

The company will pay approximately USD 239.5 million equivalent in Pakistani rupees beginning in 2027, allowing time for network technology deployment. VEON is a global digital operator with telecommunications and digital services operations across six markets. The auction represents a significant expansion of Pakistan's digital infrastructure capacity, enabling faster broadband speeds and next-generation services. For the telecommunications sector, additional spectrum in sub-1 GHz bands improves coverage economics while mid-band allocations support urban capacity requirements. The deferred payment structure in local currency reduces immediate foreign exchange pressure on operators. This development matters as Pakistan seeks to attract digital economy investment amid improving macroeconomic conditions.

The spectrum acquisition aligns with Jazz's strategy to enhance customer propositions through augmented intelligence and expanded connectivity. For equipment vendors and infrastructure providers, the auction signals sustained capital expenditure in network modernisation across one of South Asia's largest mobile markets. The government's reform-oriented approach, including transparent spectrum pricing and payment terms, may influence future investment decisions in regional telecommunications markets.
