Qatar's state utilities provider, Kahramaa, has secured infrastructure contracts exceeding QR 2.2 billion with domestic and global engineering firms. The initiative aims to upgrade the western region's power grid to seamlessly absorb and distribute electricity generated from the upcoming Dukhan Solar Power Project.

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), the sole transmission and distribution system operator for electricity and water in Qatar, has finalized engineering, procurement, and construction contracts valued above QR 2.2 billion. According to official disclosures, the agreements distribute infrastructure workloads across a cohort of domestic and international industrial entities, including Larsen & Toubro, LS Cable, Voltage Engineering Ltd., and the Best & Betas Consortium.

The capital deployment focuses heavily on modernizing the transmission network within Qatar's western territory. The comprehensive scope of works entails upgrading existing substations, constructing new transmission nodes, and deploying extensive networks of both underground cabling and overhead power lines. This grid reinforcement is fundamentally designed to establish the primary grid connection for the utility-scale Dukhan Solar Power Project, ensuring the national network can handle the specific load profiles associated with large-scale photovoltaic generation.

This grid expansion underlines a critical pivot toward diversifying the national energy mix and scaling up renewable integration capabilities. For utilities and infrastructure stakeholders, the project sets a precedent for regional grid modernization, emphasizing flexibility and efficiency in absorbing intermittent clean energy. Furthermore, the substantial contract allocation highlights growing market opportunities for global engineering firms and specialized equipment manufacturers positioning themselves within the Middle East’s rapidly expanding sustainable infrastructure pipeline.
