INDIA —Indian tile manufacturer Kajaria Ceramics has expanded its commercial partnership with independent power producer Sunsure Energy through a new power purchase agreement for round-the-clock green energy. Under the long-term contract, Sunsure Energy will construct dedicated capacities of 10 MW solar and 10 MW wind power in Barmer District, Rajasthan. The clean electricity generated from these assets will support Kajaria Ceramics' manufacturing operations in Gailpur and Alwar, yielding an estimated 52.5 million units of energy annually while reducing carbon emissions by roughly 42,000 metric tonnes of CO2e each year.
This arrangement represents the second transaction between the two corporate entities, building upon a 7 MW solar contract executed in 2023 and bringing their combined portfolio to 27 MW. Kajaria Ceramics manufactures ceramic and vitrified tiles across nine production sites in India and Nepal, maintaining an total capacity of 87.8 million square meters. Sunsure Energy develops renewable power infrastructure, providing customized solar, wind, and energy storage options to industrial clients, supported by a 400 million USD equity commitment from Partners Group AG.
Industrial firms in heavy manufacturing sectors are increasingly procuring firm, round-the-clock clean power to meet ESG mandates and manage long-term energy expense exposure. Hybrid solar-wind structures address grid intermittency challenges by pairing complementary generation profiles, enabling continuous power delivery for energy-intensive industrial processes. Regional renewable generation contracts also insulate large manufacturing footprints from potential power tariff fluctuations.
The agreement underlines a growing reliance on open-access corporate power purchase agreements among energy-dense commercial users in India. Independent power producers are scaling up hybrid and battery-integrated capacity developments across western India to capture demand from manufacturing hubs seeking reliable decarbonization pathways.
