Kaléo has been awarded a Project BioShield contract by BARDA for the late-stage development and procurement of pralidoxime chloride auto-injectors to treat nerve agent exposure. The agreement includes a 96.1 million dollar base award with options totaling an additional 244.8 million dollars.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA —Pharmaceutical device innovator Kaléo has secured a Project BioShield contract from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), a division of the US Department of Health and Human Services. The base contract, valued at approximately 96.1 million US dollars, funds final-stage clinical development, regulatory approval processes, manufacturing validation, and initial delivery of pralidoxime chloride (2-PAM) auto-injectors. If government agencies exercise all additional contract options, the total agreement value could increase by an further 244.8 million US dollars.

Kaléo is a US-based medical technology enterprise that specializes in designing and manufacturing drug-delivery devices and automated injector systems. The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) is a US federal agency tasked with securing medical countermeasures against public health emergencies, chemical threats, and biological risks.

The auto-injector unit is designed to rapidly administer antidotes against organophosphate poisoning and nerve agent exposure in both adult and pediatric populations. Following an initial product design grant awarded in 2024, this advanced procurement agreement moves the emergency treatment system toward Food and Drug Administration approval, supporting the expansion of the US Strategic National Stockpile for chemical defense readiness.

This contract highlights ongoing federal investments in national biodefense capabilities and rapid-response medical infrastructure. For pharmaceutical manufacturers, public health agencies, and defense sector investors, expanding domestic auto-injector production capacity strengthens emergency supply chain resilience and establishes a standardized platform for delivering critical chemical countermeasures during emergency response scenarios.
