Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have launched a joint logistics infrastructure project in Tashkent aimed at strengthening Central Asia’s role in Eurasian trade corridors. The rail-connected complex will support containerized freight growth and improve transit connectivity between China, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have initiated the construction of a multi-purpose logistics center in Tashkent designed to strengthen cross-border freight connectivity and improve regional export capacity. According to official project disclosures, the facility will include new rail infrastructure, a container terminal, and supporting logistics systems to support containerized cargo movement. The development contract was signed between Silkway CA LLC, a joint venture formed by PTC Holding and Uzbekistan Railways, and China Railway Construction Engineering Group, which will undertake construction and commissioning of the complex.

The logistics hub will cover approximately 159.4 hectares, with the first phase expected to be completed in 2027 at an investment of about $84 million. The project reflects a broader effort by Central Asian economies to strengthen their position in emerging Eurasian transport corridors linking Chinese manufacturing centers with European markets. Expanding rail-based container logistics is increasingly viewed as a strategic priority for governments seeking to capture a larger share of transit trade flowing through the region.

Uzbekistan Railways operates the national rail network and plays a central role in the country’s logistics modernization strategy, while PTC Holding develops and manages international freight infrastructure across Eurasia. China Railway Construction Engineering Group is a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation, one of China’s major state-owned construction and engineering companies involved in global infrastructure projects. The logistics complex will complement existing terminals within PTC Holding’s network, including facilities at Dostyk on the China–Kazakhstan border and the Poti multimodal terminal in Georgia.

By integrating these nodes, the new hub is expected to support more efficient container transfers across rail corridors connecting Central Asia with the Caucasus and European transport networks, potentially attracting additional freight flows and logistics investment into the region.
