Kuwait's Naval Forces will equip eight new stealth patrol vessels with Rheinmetall's advanced naval decoy launchers and extended-range ammunition, under a multi-million-euro contract supporting the nation's largest shipbuilding program in 15 years.

Kuwait is modernizing its maritime defense capabilities through a new procurement agreement with German defense contractor Rheinmetall, according to official disclosures. The contract secures Multi Ammunition Softkill Systems (MASS) and advanced Omnitrap-ER decoy ammunition for eight Al Dorra-class guided-missile boats. The primary contract value is in the low double-digit million-euro range, while the supplementary ammunition order is valued in the high single-digit million-euro range. Headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany, Rheinmetall is an integrated technology group specializing in security and mobility solutions, including military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition systems. Financed and booked in the second quarter of 2026, the project involves integration and operational verification, with initial deliveries commencing immediately and concluding by the second quarter of 2029.

This deployment represents the first time Kuwaiti forces have integrated the MASS decoy technology into their fleet. The stealth patrol vessels are being constructed by Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding under the prime contracting leadership of the United Arab Emirates-based EDGE Group, marking a major milestone in cross-border Gulf defense collaboration. The procurement addresses a critical operational requirement for Kuwait, protecting its naval assets against sophisticated imaging radar and infrared-guided missile threats through enhanced trajectory and extended-range countermeasure technologies.

The agreement underscores an accelerating trend of defense modernization and localized shipbuilding partnerships within the Middle East region. For defense contractors and investors, this deal illustrates the growing strategic value of advanced electronic warfare and countermeasure systems in securing state-of-the-art naval procurement programs worldwide.
