Larsen & Toubro has teamed with France’s Exail to supply advanced robotic mine countermeasure suites for the Indian Navy’s 12-vessel MCMV program. The collaboration focuses on autonomous detection and neutralization technologies, supporting India’s defense self-reliance initiatives and enhancing maritime security through strategic international technology transfers.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has established a strategic partnership with the French technology group Exail to provide a comprehensive unmanned Mine Counter-Measure (MCM) suite for the Indian Navy. This initiative is aimed at the Navy’s program to procure 12 Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMVs). L&T will serve as the lead contractor, integrating Exail’s specialized autonomous and remotely operated systems capable of detecting and neutralizing naval mines from a safe distance.

This collaboration represents a critical shift toward integrating high-tech robotics into India’s maritime security framework. By leveraging Exail’s field-proven technologies, the Indian Navy gains sophisticated capabilities to manage underwater threats without risking personnel. For the defense industry, this partnership underscores the ongoing transition toward autonomous warfare and highlights the importance of international alliances in acquiring specialized technical expertise. Larsen & Toubro is an Indian multinational conglomerate with extensive operations in engineering, construction, and defense manufacturing. Exail is a global leader in robotics and maritime navigation technology.

The agreement directly supports the Indian government’s policy of indigenization in defense production, encouraging the development of a robust local manufacturing ecosystem. Strategic implications for the market include a heightened focus on the naval robotics segment, as established defense players seek to secure long-term roles in upcoming modernization programs. This move strengthens L&T’s competitive position in the domestic naval electronics sector while reinforcing Indo-French bilateral defense ties.
