Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a design-build-operate contract from the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board. The project aims to provide continuous, safe water to South-East Guwahati via an integrated treatment and distribution system. This development reinforces L&T’s strategic expansion into Northeast India’s growing infrastructure market.

According to official disclosures, the Water & Effluent Treatment division of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been commissioned by the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board to execute a comprehensive water management project.

This design-build-operate initiative is designed to provide uninterrupted potable water to residents in South-East Guwahati. The scope of work is extensive, involving the construction of barge-mounted intake systems, water treatment plants, and a distribution network including household service connections.

L&T will also integrate a SCADA system for real-time monitoring and manage operations and maintenance for a five-year period. Larsen & Toubro is an Indian multinational conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, focused on large-scale EPC projects, manufacturing, and technology services.

This development is significant as it addresses the urgent need for modernized utility infrastructure in Northeast India, a region seeing increased capital allocation for urban development. For the engineering and construction industry, the project reflects a growing trend toward "smart" water management that utilizes digital monitoring to reduce non-revenue water and improve system reliability.

Strategically, the contract solidifies L&T’s competitive positioning in regional infrastructure markets while providing long-term revenue visibility through the five-year maintenance component. For stakeholders, this project underscores the shift toward high-performance, technology-integrated municipal contracts that prioritize long-term sustainability over simple asset creation.
