UNITED STATES OF AMERICA —Civil engineering contractor Lane, operating as the United States subsidiary of Italy's Webuild Group, has finished construction on the Kansas City Levees Flood Risk Management Project. Executed on behalf of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the extensive flood mitigation project strengthens infrastructure resilience along more than 16 miles of levees and floodwalls bordering the Kansas and Missouri rivers.
Lane Construction Corporation is a major U.S. civil construction company specializing in heavy transportation, tunneling, and water infrastructure development. Webuild Group is a global engineering and construction company headquarted in Italy, known for delivering complex public works and infrastructure projects. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is a federal agency responsible for engineering public works, flood risk management, and navigable waterway systems across the nation.
Commenced in July 2021, the project covered the Argentine, Armourdale, and Central Industrial districts. The construction scope encompassed over one million cubic yards of earthwork, more than 25,000 feet of new concrete floodwalls, installation of 120 relief wells, replacement of 12 railroad closure gates, and modifications to 175 utility lines. All works were carried out while maintaining uninterrupted operational flow across one of the country's largest freight rail corridors.
This major infrastructure achievement provides significant long-term protection for critical economic assets in central North America. By fortifying flood defenses, the project protects nearly 10 billion US dollars in commercial property and key freight transportation hubs, offering rail operators, local businesses, and supply chain logistics managers greater security against climate-related disruptions and operational downtime.
