Qatar-based Lesha Bank has entered an agreement to acquire 33 commercial aircraft leased to 25 airlines worldwide from global lessor Avolon. The transaction expands the bank's aviation fleet under management past 75 aircraft, strengthening its Shari'a-compliant investment portfolio.

QATAR —Lesha Bank LLC (Public), a Qatar-based Shari'a-compliant financial institution specializing in investment banking and asset management, has entered into a definitive agreement with Dublin-headquartered aviation finance firm Avolon to acquire a portfolio of 33 commercial aircraft. Executed on behalf of the Lesha Aviation Fund, the transaction includes aircraft currently leased to 25 commercial airlines globally. Following completion, the newly acquired assets will be managed by Lesha Aviation Services, boosting the bank’s total fleet under management to over 75 aircraft.

This transaction highlights growing institutional appetite for high-quality, yield-generating aviation assets, particularly within Islamic finance structures. For Avolon, an international aircraft leasing company managing hundreds of commercial jets worldwide, selling secondary market portfolios allows the firm to active-manage asset risk, monetize capital gains, and reallocate capital into new-technology order books. Meanwhile, alternative asset managers in the Middle East continue to seek long-term, non-correlated assets that offer stable lease yields.

The deal reinforces structural liquidity and cross-border investment activity linking Gulf Cooperation Council capital with global transportation infrastructure. Commercial airlines operating leased aircraft benefit from stable, multi-year operating agreements with diversified asset managers. The transition of management to Lesha Aviation Services underscores the expanding operational capabilities of Gulf-based investment firms in executing complex, international aviation asset management contracts.

From an investment standpoint, the acquisition strengthens Lesha Bank’s fee-generating asset management platform while enhancing its risk-adjusted earning profile through geographic and lessee diversification. Institutional investors in Shari'a-compliant structures increasingly view aircraft leasing as an attractive real-asset class offering predictable income streams. The continued secondary trading of aircraft portfolios demonstrates liquidity within global leasing markets, providing asset originators with strategic capital rotation options while allowing private wealth and institutional funds to secure backed yields.
