LG Electronics India signs first captive solar PPA with Sunsure for Greater Noida plant

Sunsure Energy has signed an 11 MWp solar power purchase agreement with LG Electronics India, marking LG's first captive renewable energy project in the country. The deal will supply 1.6 crore units annually from Sunsure's 82.5 MWp Erach plant, enabling LG to reach 50% renewable energy consumption at its Greater Noida facility.

Sunsure Energy has signed an 11 MWp long-term solar power purchase agreement with LG Electronics India to supply power to LG's Greater Noida facility in Uttar Pradesh, according to an official announcement. The agreement marks LG India's first captive renewable energy project and its first strategic equity investment in an Indian special purpose vehicle for power generation. Sunsure will supply 1.6 crore units of clean power annually from its 82.5 MWp solar plant in Erach, Uttar Pradesh.

Sunsure Energy is a round-the-clock renewable energy solutions provider for commercial and industrial customers. LG Electronics India is a consumer electronics brand and subsidiary of South Korea's LG Electronics. The agreement will enable LG to source 30% of its power consumption through renewable energy, bringing total renewable energy consumption at the facility to 50%. Over the project lifetime, the arrangement is expected to offset 3 lakh metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

This development matters for India's corporate renewable energy market, where captive arrangements are increasingly used by multinational manufacturers to meet sustainability commitments including RE100 targets. The partnership aligns with LG's global transition to 100% renewable energy and supports India's net-zero ambition for 2070.

For the renewable energy industry, the deal demonstrates how consumer electronics manufacturers are integrating clean energy into production ecosystems.
