INDIA; UNITED ARAB EMIRATES —L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore (LTEH Onshore), the onshore hydrocarbon EPC vertical of Indian engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro Limited, has officially signed a major contract to execute an ultra-mega gas compression facilities project for a prestigious client in the Middle East. Awarded following a letter of award issued in FY26, the contract value exceeds INR 150 billion, classifying it under the ultra-mega category of the contractor's project scale threshold. Based in Mumbai, India, Larsen & Toubro Limited operates global engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects across more than 50 countries with annual revenues exceeding USD 32 billion. The client entity is a leading sovereign state-backed oil and gas producer operating in the Middle East energy corridor, managing extensive onshore and offshore hydrocarbon reserves.
The comprehensive scope of work awarded to LTEH Onshore encompasses the complete engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of high-capacity gas compression plants. This includes installing gas inlet facilities, gas compression systems, condensate and produced water handling systems, propane refrigeration systems, and all associated auxiliary utilities. Designed to process complex sour gas streams in strict compliance with applicable client standards and project mandates, the project also incorporates two 230 kV extra-high-voltage substations executed by L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution division to meet the extensive power demands of the onshore gas compression infrastructure.
This ultra-mega project award substantially reinforces the critical necessity of expanding gas handling capacity across Middle Eastern hydrocarbon basins. By establishing advanced sour gas treatment and high-pressure compression plants, regional operators are directly addressing escalating power demand, enhancing industrial feedstock availability, and fulfilling national strategic objectives aimed at maximizing economic returns from natural gas reserves. The inclusion of heavy-duty sour gas processing capabilities highlights a broader industry transformation toward handling more complex, acid-gas-dense hydrocarbon reservoirs requiring sophisticated, highly resilient processing metallurgy.
For international investors and EPC business operators, LTEH Onshore’s contract securing highlights the robust market dynamic and capital allocation priorities currently dominating the Middle East energy market. Indian multinational contractors continue to solidify their international market footprint by capturing large-scale turnkey infrastructure orders against global competition. For Larsen & Toubro Limited, the project win expands its foreign order book backlog, provides strong revenue visibility for its energy hydrocarbon division and demonstrates internal synergy through cross-divisional execution alongside its power transmission and distribution business unit.
