INDIA —Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company has empanelled Jain Irrigation Systems for a contract worth INR 1.18 billion, to execute a major off-grid solar irrigation project across Maharashtra. Under the mandates of the Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana initiative, the project entails the turnkey design, manufacturing, delivery, installation, and commissioning of 5,000 solar photovoltaic water pumping units with power capacities ranging from 3 HP to 7.5 HP. Project execution is stipulated for completion within a 60-day timeframe.
This initiative addresses long-standing agricultural challenges in rural India, where unreliable grid electricity often hampers irrigation access. By deploying decentralized, off-grid solar pumping infrastructure, the state utility reduces dependency on traditional power grids and fossil-fuel generators, providing farmers with daily power access for crop irrigation.
