Magnora Data Center ASA (MDATA) has agreed to acquire a 50% interest in the Risti Kampus data center project in Estonia through a joint venture with Sunly. The development combines planned data center capacity with grid access, renewable generation, battery storage and high-speed fiber connectivity linking Estonia with major European internet hubs.

ESTONIA Magnora Data Center ASA (MDATA) has agreed to acquire a 50% interest in the Risti Kampus data center project in western Estonia, forming a 50/50 joint venture with renewable energy developer Sunly. The campus is planned with an initial 180 MW capacity and has a pathway to expand to 400 MW, subject to upgrades to the local substation.

The development is designed around direct access to electricity infrastructure. The site is connected to a substation with 180 MW of capacity currently available and is also positioned next to Sunly's energy park. The adjacent energy development includes 244 MWp of solar generation, 144 MW of battery energy storage and 44 MW of wind capacity under development, creating a combined power and data infrastructure model.

Risti is located about 60 kilometres south of Tallinn and 150 kilometres south of Helsinki. The site has fiber connectivity with round-trip latency to Helsinki below five milliseconds and sits on a high-speed optical route linking Tallinn and Helsinki with major internet hubs in Frankfurt. This connectivity is relevant for data-intensive applications that require low-latency connections between computing facilities and European network infrastructure.

The project structure gives Sunly responsibility for local execution, permitting and energy-related development, while MDATA will lead commercial strategy and customer engagement. The arrangement therefore combines local energy and permitting capabilities with a dedicated data center development platform as the project moves through further development stages.

The Risti development is relevant to the European data center market as operators continue to require large amounts of power, grid availability and reliable connectivity for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other high-density workloads. Integrating the campus with renewable generation and battery storage could also provide a direct link between electricity supply and a large industrial power consumer.

For Estonia, the project adds to the country's digital infrastructure pipeline and could increase demand for grid capacity, renewable electricity, fiber networks and supporting engineering services. For energy developers, colocating generation and storage with a large electricity consumer provides another model for integrating renewable assets with expanding digital infrastructure.

Magnora Data Center ASA develops data center projects and owns selected data center operations, with activities across Northern Europe and Italy. Sunly is an integrated energy infrastructure developer focused on renewable generation, battery storage and electricity solutions across the Baltic region and Poland.
