MMRDA aligns with Cleveland Clinic for planned MediCity within Navi Mumbai urban growth zone

Urban planners and state officials in western India are expanding infrastructure initiatives aimed at positioning the Mumbai Metropolitan Region as a global hub for specialized healthcare and biotechnology. A high-level international delegation from United States-based health system Cleveland Clinic held strategic discussions with leadership at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the state government body responsible for planning and executing infrastructure across the Mumbai urban zone. The meeting focused on advancing the Government of Maharashtra’s vision for Mumbai 3.0, a master-planned urban extension designed to drive economic growth, research, and high-capacity civil infrastructure.

The interaction follows a Memorandum of Understanding previously signed between the Government of Maharashtra and Cleveland Clinic to establish a world-class MediCity integrated within the Navi Mumbai growth corridor, adjacent to the core Mumbai 3.0 development. During the session, MMRDA presented its multi-decade vision for regional growth, focusing on multimodal transport integration, sustainable land development, and modern healthcare facilities designed to attract international medical research and clinical investments.

Developing dedicated healthcare infrastructure clusters reflects a growing regional policy shift toward sector-specific urban planning. By co-locating advanced medical facilities, academic institutions, and research laboratories within newly planned urban zones, municipal authorities aim to capture growing global demand for medical value travel, specialized patient care, and pharmaceutical innovation.
