Mubadala Investment Company has acquired a $200 million stake in the Greenlink subsea interconnector from Equitix, expanding its exposure to European electricity transmission infrastructure. The asset enhances UK–Ireland grid connectivity and supports renewable integration, reflecting growing investor interest in regulated cross-border energy systems.

Mubadala Investment Company, the Abu Dhabi sovereign investor, has acquired a $200 million stake in the Greenlink subsea electricity interconnector through the purchase of Equitix’s holding, according to official disclosures. Greenlink is a 504-megawatt high-voltage direct current link spanning approximately 190 kilometres between Ireland and Great Britain, developed as a joint venture between Equitix and Baltic Cable.

The transaction increases Mubadala’s exposure to European energy transmission assets at a time when cross-border grid capacity is becoming central to integrating renewable generation and improving system reliability. Interconnectors such as Greenlink enable bidirectional electricity flows between markets, helping balance supply fluctuations and enhance energy security across the region. The asset is regulated by the UK’s Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) and Ireland’s Commission for Regulation of Utilities, and has been recognised under the EU framework for projects of common interest, highlighting its strategic role in regional infrastructure development. The investment aligns with broader capital allocation trends toward grid modernisation and transition-supporting infrastructure, particularly assets that facilitate decarbonisation and market integration. Mubadala Investment Company is a sovereign wealth fund of Abu Dhabi with a diversified global portfolio spanning infrastructure, energy, technology and other strategic sectors.

Equitix is a UK-based infrastructure investment manager focused on core long-term infrastructure assets across Europe. The transaction underscores growing institutional investor appetite for regulated transmission assets that provide stable long-term cash flows while supporting structural changes in European power markets.
