The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is accelerating construction on the Shunya Iconic Bridge along Metro Line 2B. Key sections of the main deck have been successfully cast for the 130-metre cable-stayed structure crossing the Vakola Nalla.

INDIA Mass transit infrastructure in India's financial capital has marked a notable structural milestone with the progression of a signature crossing. According to project updates, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has advanced the construction of the Shunya Iconic Bridge on Mumbai Metro Line 2B. Construction crews are actively executing concrete casting and reinforcement for the main deck superstructure, with multiple segments advancing in parallel to form the elevated rail corridor.

Designed to integrate complex civil engineering with a striking architectural aesthetic, the Shunya Iconic Bridge will cross the Vakola Nalla. The cable-stayed structure spans 130 metres in total, comprising an 80-metre main span directly over the water body and a 50-metre anchor span. Strict dimensional accuracy and quality control protocols are being maintained during the formwork and placement of embedded components.

The bridge serves as a critical node along Metro Line 2B, a 23.64-kilometer elevated rapid transit corridor designed to connect DN Nagar with Mandale. The line aims to substantially enhance east-west urban mobility and provide seamless interchanges with Mumbai’s existing suburban railway and metro networks. The initial 5.5-kilometer Phase 1 stretch between Mandale and Chembur became operational earlier in the year, and the completion of major civil structures like the Shunya Bridge keeps the remaining phases on track toward final commissioning.
