The Nasirabad Irrigation Department has begun an urgent canal-cleaning operation to ensure smooth water distribution for farmers ahead of the Rabi season.

Authorities have initiated an accelerated canal maintenance campaign to restore full water conveyance capacity along the Rabi Canal before the onset of the winter cropping cycle. The operation, directed by senior irrigation officials, focuses on removing dense vegetation and accumulated obstructions that had restricted water flow and disrupted farm-level distribution.

According to departmental updates, 26 revenue divisions (RDs) have already been cleared, with additional segments undergoing rapid mechanized cleaning. Heavy equipment has been mobilized to expedite desilting and shrub removal activities, while field engineers and supervisory staff are monitoring on-site execution to ensure timely completion.

The intervention comes at a critical juncture for farmers dependent on canal irrigation for Rabi crops, which typically include wheat and other winter staples. Uninterrupted water availability during this period is essential to stabilize yields and prevent crop stress.

From a policy perspective, proactive canal maintenance reduces the risk of supply disruptions, supports agricultural productivity, and safeguards rural incomes. For agribusiness stakeholders and input suppliers, improved irrigation reliability enhances planting confidence and strengthens the overall resilience of the regional agricultural economy during the Rabi season.
