SWEDEN —NCC has secured a construction contract worth approximately SEK 1 billion from Svenska kraftnät for the Horred-Breared power transmission project in Sweden. The contract marks the first construction award within the Västra Götaland business package established by the two parties in August 2025 and moves the project into its main production phase.
The development covers 70 kilometres of new 400 kV overhead transmission lines connecting the Breared substation in Halmstad Municipality with the Horred substation in Mark Municipality. The new infrastructure will be built along the existing transmission corridor, allowing the current lines to be dismantled as the replacement system is delivered.
Planning, design and preliminary activities for the section began in 2025, followed by a groundbreaking ceremony in spring 2026 and selected time-critical works. The newly signed construction agreement enables the transition to full-scale production, with completion scheduled for the first half of 2029.
The project is relevant to Sweden’s electricity infrastructure because it involves renewal of high-voltage transmission capacity along an established corridor. Replacing ageing infrastructure with new transmission assets can support the continued operation of the regional grid and provide the physical network capacity required for reliable electricity transmission as demand and generation patterns evolve.
For the construction and energy infrastructure sectors, the contract creates demand for civil works, power transmission construction, engineering, equipment installation and associated site activities. The use of an existing corridor also means that construction must be coordinated with the dismantling of the current lines and the continued operation of the surrounding electricity network.
The Horred-Breared section forms the first phase of the wider Västra Götaland business package. Its execution provides a defined delivery programme within a broader transmission infrastructure relationship between NCC and Svenska kraftnät, while the SEK 1 billion order will be recorded in NCC Infrastructure during the third quarter of 2026.
