NCC has secured a construction contract worth approximately SEK 290 million to build two inmate residential units and associated waste recycling facilities at Skogome correctional facility in Gothenburg. The project supports Sweden’s prison capacity expansion, with the facility targeted to increase accommodation capacity from approximately 200 to 800 places by 2029.

SWEDEN —NCC has secured a SEK 290 million construction contract from Specialfastigheter to deliver additional infrastructure at the Skogome correctional facility in Gothenburg, Sweden. The assignment covers the construction of two residential buildings for inmates and associated waste recycling facilities, forming part of a wider expansion programme led by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

The expansion is intended to increase Skogome’s accommodation capacity from approximately 200 to 800 places, reflecting the growing demand for correctional facilities across Sweden. NCC’s contract represents a defined component of this broader development rather than the entire expansion programme. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with completion expected in 2029.

The development forms part of Sweden’s wider investment in correctional infrastructure, where additional accommodation capacity is required to address increasing pressure on the prison system. Expanding existing facilities offers an approach to increasing institutional capacity while making use of established sites and supporting infrastructure. The project will also require specialised construction arrangements to meet the operational and security requirements associated with correctional environments.

For the construction sector, the contract highlights continued demand for specialised public infrastructure projects, particularly secure institutional buildings. Contractors operating in this segment must manage stringent security specifications, technical installations, controlled logistics and confidential project information. These requirements create opportunities for construction companies with experience in security-classified developments and complex public-sector assignments.

NCC’s appointment also strengthens its position in Sweden’s correctional construction market. The company has previously delivered the Salix forensic psychiatric investigation facility adjacent to Skogome, providing relevant experience in developing secure institutional properties. NCC is a Nordic construction and infrastructure company operating across building projects, civil engineering, asphalt and aggregates production, and commercial property development.

The approximately SEK 290 million order will be recorded within NCC Building Sweden in the fourth quarter of 2026. The contract adds to the pipeline of specialised public infrastructure construction work in Sweden, while the wider Skogome expansion represents a significant increase in the country's correctional accommodation capacity.
