Chesapeake Utilities Corporation has agreed to sell a 49% minority stake in the $1.2 billion Florida Energy Pathway project to NextEra Energy Resources. Chesapeake will retain a controlling 51% interest while its subsidiary manages construction and operations.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA NextEra Energy Resources has acquired a 49% minority stake in the Florida Energy Pathway natural gas infrastructure project from Peninsula Pipeline Holdings, a subsidiary of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation. Under the transaction framework, Chesapeake Utilities retains a controlling 51% majority interest in the project. Additionally, subsidiary Peninsula Pipeline Company has been appointed to oversee construction, management, and long-term operations for the joint venture asset.

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is a NYSE-listed diversified energy delivery enterprise providing natural gas distribution and transmission, electricity distribution, propane, and mobile compressed natural gas solutions. The Florida Energy Pathway involves constructing a 24-inch intrastate natural gas pipeline stretching from Palm Beach County to Miami-Dade County. The total capital expenditure for the development is estimated at approximately $1.2 billion, with commercial operation projected for 2030 following the start of construction in early 2028.

This equity transaction significantly optimizes capital distribution for large-scale energy infrastructure in the region. By bringing in a strategic partner, Chesapeake Utilities mitigates single-entity balance sheet exposure while ensuring the necessary capital commitment for high-capacity natural gas transport in fast-growing municipal markets across South Florida.

The expansion targets severe regional supply bottlenecks and rising residential and industrial energy demands in Southeast Florida. The influx of institutional energy investment into transmission assets highlights the ongoing demand for natural gas infrastructure as a core utility layer supporting urban population growth and grid reliability.

For energy market participants and corporate investors, joint infrastructure ventures of this scale signal sustained capital deployment into intrastate midstream networks. Bringing an established co-investor into a major regional development provides risk-sharing advantages while securing the supply capacity required to sustain economic expansion across South Florida's metropolitan areas.
