Nokia deepens Taiwan Mobile collaboration to accelerate AI-enabled 5G network evolution

Nokia and Taiwan Mobile have expanded their long-term partnership through a new agreement to modernize Taiwan's 5G infrastructure with AI-driven network technologies. The initiative aims to improve automation, capacity, energy efficiency and resilience while preparing the operator for advanced 5G services and growing AI-related network demand.

Nokia has signed a new agreement with Taiwan Mobile to expand and modernize the operator's 5G network across Taiwan, according to an official announcement. The project will introduce Nokia's latest AirScale radio access solutions together with AI-powered software designed to enhance network automation, operational efficiency and infrastructure performance while supporting the increasing traffic generated by artificial intelligence applications.

The deployment will incorporate AI capabilities across multiple areas of network management, including predictive analytics, automated optimization, energy management and network resilience. Nokia will also supply next-generation baseband and radio technologies intended to increase capacity, improve uplink performance and support new 5G features such as network slicing and Reduced Capability (RedCap) services. The upgrades are expected to lower operational complexity while improving service continuity and reducing power consumption.

The agreement is significant because telecommunications operators are increasingly integrating AI into network operations to accommodate higher data volumes, improve service quality and control operating costs. As AI-enabled enterprise and consumer applications expand, operators require more intelligent and energy-efficient infrastructure capable of supporting advanced connectivity without proportionally increasing network expenditure.
