NTPC Green Energy has fully commissioned its 250 MW solar facility in Andhra Pradesh after activating the final 91.6 MW segment. This milestone, achieved through a joint venture with ONGC, elevates the group's total installed capacity and reinforces its strategic target of 60 GW in renewable assets by 2032.
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has formally reached full commercial operation at its solar photovoltaic site in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. According to official regulatory filings, the final 91.6 MW tranche of the 250 MW project commenced operations on February 27, 2026, following the earlier activation of a 158.4 MW phase.
The facility is managed by Ayana Kadapa Renewable Power, a subsidiary of the ONGC NTPC Green joint venture. NTPC Green Energy is the dedicated renewable energy arm of state-run power major NTPC Limited, focused on scaling India's clean energy infrastructure. This completion is a pivotal development for the Indian utility sector, as it contributes to the group’s cumulative installed renewable capacity reaching 9,292.68 MW. The project operates under a long-term, 25-year power purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) at a fixed tariff of 2.71 INR/kWh, providing a stable revenue stream and predictable energy pricing for the regional grid. By finalizing this capacity, the group demonstrates its ability to execute multi-phase utility-scale projects via complex joint-venture structures involving India’s largest state-owned energy entities.
For investors and industry analysts, this expansion signals NGEL's steady progression toward its aggressive 2032 target of 60 GW. The successful integration of this project highlights the critical role of public-sector partnerships in meeting national decarbonization goals. Furthermore, the operationalization of the Kadapa plant strengthens the energy supply chain in Andhra Pradesh, supporting local industrial demand for green power and reducing reliance on thermal generation. As NGEL continues to ramp up its organic portfolio, its growing scale enhances its bargaining power in procurement and its attractiveness for further green financing initiatives.
