NTPC issues initial project mandate to L&T unit for 1,600 MW thermal expansion in Chhattisgarh

L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions has received a Limited Notice to Proceed from NTPC Ltd for the main plant package of the 2x800 MW Lara Stage-III thermal project in Chhattisgarh. The EPC mandate will expand India’s ultra-supercritical generation capacity subject to environmental clearance.

State-owned utility NTPC Ltd has issued a Limited Notice to Proceed to L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions for the main plant package of the Lara Stage-III project in Chhattisgarh, according to official corporate disclosures. The scope covers comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction responsibilities for two 800 MW ultra-supercritical generating units. Under the arrangement, the contractor will design, manufacture, assemble, and commission core power equipment, including boilers, steam turbines, electrostatic precipitators, air-cooled condensers, control systems, and associated civil infrastructure. Full execution will commence once mandatory environmental clearances are obtained and preliminary period milestones are fulfilled.

NTPC Ltd is India’s largest state-owned electric utility company, primarily engaged in power generation and distribution across thermal, hydro, and renewable energy assets. L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions functions as a specialized engineering arm of Larsen & Toubro Limited, an Indian multinational conglomerate operating across technology, engineering, construction, and manufacturing sectors.
