NTT DATA’s WinWire deal intensifies battle for Microsoft Azure AI talent

NTT DATA has agreed to acquire Microsoft partner WinWire, gaining more than 1,000 Azure and AI engineers. The move addresses surging enterprise demand for scaled AI solutions and sharpens competition among global systems integrators for specialized cloud talent, with the AI market projected to approach $3.5 trillion within a decade.

NTT DATA announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire WinWire, a Microsoft solutions partner specializing in agentic AI, data engineering, and cloud-native application development on Azure. Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close subject to customary conditions, adding more than 1,000 Azure-certified engineers and Microsoft specialists to NTT DATA’s workforce.

This acquisition responds to a critical bottleneck in enterprise AI adoption: the shortage of professionals who can move AI from isolated pilots to organization-wide deployment. According to official disclosures, WinWire’s six-time Microsoft Partner of the Year credentials and its delivery centers in India will augment NTT DATA’s global delivery capacity. NTT DATA, a Tokyo-headquartered IT services firm and part of the NTT Group, holds the Microsoft Global System Integrator Growth Champion Partner of the Year designation. WinWire is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, and focuses on Microsoft Fabric, Azure AI Foundry, and agentic AI frameworks.

The deal underscores accelerating consolidation within the Microsoft partner ecosystem as integrators vie for dominance in the enterprise AI market. With industry analysts projecting AI spending to climb from $390 billion to nearly $3.5 trillion over the next decade, systems integrators are scaling their talent bases to deliver production-ready, sector-specific solutions. The combined engineering resources are expected to shorten deployment timelines for clients in financial services, manufacturing, and healthcare. The integration of India-based delivery centers may also offer cost and scale advantages, enabling NTT DATA to compete more aggressively on large-scale cloud transformation engagements.
