European silicon photonics pioneer iPronics secured $125 million in Series B financing co-led by Maverick Silicon and Light Street Capital, alongside strategic participation from chipmaker NVIDIA and a consortium of institutional venture firms. The funding round elevates the platform's total capital raised to $177 million and accelerates the deployment of programmable optical switching technology tailored for modern data centers.

Founded in 2019 as a university spin-off in Valencia, Spain, iPronics develops programmable optical circuit switches designed to optimize data center interconnectivity. The company's flagship hardware platform integrates silicon photonics with software control APIs to offer real-time network reconfiguration, enabling data centers to enhance efficiency without requiring extensive copper cable overhauls.

As artificial intelligence models expand in size and complexity, compute clusters require exponentially higher bandwidth and lower latency. Traditional copper-based networking architectures encounter severe physical constraints regarding energy consumption, thermal management, and transmission distance at high bandwidths. Solid-state optical switching addresses these structural bottlenecks by routing data via light signals, significantly reducing power overhead while increasing dynamic throughput across server racks.

This technological shift directly impacts hyperscale cloud providers, enterprise data center operators, and semiconductor manufacturers seeking to maximize graphics processing unit utilization.
