OceanaGold has agreed to acquire Ausgold in a transaction valued at A$776 million, securing full ownership of the Katanning Gold Project in Western Australia to diversify its operational asset base.

Mid-tier miner OceanaGold has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire all issued shares of Australia-listed developer Ausgold in a deal valued at approximately A$776 million. Under the arrangement, Ausgold investors will receive 0.03365 OceanaGold shares for each share held, with an option to elect for cash consideration from a capped pool of A$194 million. The acquisition gives OceanaGold complete control over the advanced Katanning Gold Project in Western Australia.

OceanaGold Corporation is a global gold and copper producer operating core assets in the United States, New Zealand, and the Philippines. Ausgold Limited is an Australian exploration and development company centered on bringing its flagship Western Australian gold assets into commercial production.

This transaction marks OceanaGold's initial asset entry into Australia, significantly strengthening its long-term project pipeline in a low-risk mining jurisdiction. Integrating Katanning provides the company with a potential open-pit operation producing over 100,000 ounces of gold annually over a decade-long mine life, balancing its existing production profile across North America and Asia-Pacific. Operational optimization and exploratory drilling are planned through 2027, targeting initial gold production by 2029.

The acquisition reflects ongoing consolidation within the global precious metals sector, as established producers leverage strong balance sheets to acquire high-grade, pre-production assets in Tier-1 jurisdictions. For resource investors and mining service providers, the capital deployment highlights rising demand for low-risk Australian gold assets to replace depleting reserves and secure long-term cash flow generation.
