INDIA —OIL Green Energy Limited has entered into strategic agreements with the municipal corporations of Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar, and Ambala to develop four integrated waste-to-clean-energy facilities in Haryana. The parent entity, Oil India Limited, is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise operating under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, specializing in hydrocarbon exploration and renewable energy expansion. Under the framework, the new infrastructure will collectively process 5,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day across the state.
The processing strategy incorporates scientific segregation to optimize resource extraction prior to conversion. Recyclable materials will be isolated, while organic wet waste will feed compressed biogas production targeted at 70 to 75 tonnes per day. Non-recyclable dry waste will be directed to thermal recovery units to generate 50 MW of green electricity. Individual daily waste handling capacities comprise 2,000 tonnes in Gurugram, 1,600 tonnes in Faridabad, 900 tonnes in Ambala, and 500 tonnes in Hisar.
This initiative aligns with national circular economy frameworks and clean energy transition objectives, specifically supporting the GOBARdhan bioenergy mandate to accelerate organic waste valuation. For urban centers, the integrated approach addresses critical landfill constraints by diverting multi-stream municipal waste into commercial energy vectors. The state-level deployment enhances local municipal waste management capabilities while creating sustainable feedstock channels for industrial bioenergy.
From a strategic standpoint, the partnership accelerates the expansion of Oil India Limited into low-carbon operations through its dedicated green energy subsidiary. The project model demonstrates how state-backed energy enterprises can diversify revenue streams by converting urban waste liabilities into baseline power and renewable gas assets. Municipalities stand to benefit from structured waste diversion, reduced environmental liabilities, and alignment with national decarbonization targets.
