OMV Petrom and RNV Infrastructure have taken final investment decision on three wind projects totaling approximately 300 MW in Romania. The Gura Văii (50 MW), Podu Turcului (100 MW), and Poiana (155 MW) projects hold all necessary permits, with staged production expected from the first half of 2027.

OMV Petrom and RNV Infrastructure have announced that three wind projects with total installed capacity of approximately 300 MW are entering the execution phase following final investment decision, according to an official announcement. The projects already hold all necessary permits, with production expected to begin in stages starting from the first half of 2027. The projects are part of a transaction closed in October 2024 through which OMV Petrom acquired a 50% stake in four wind projects developed by RNV Infrastructure via Electrocentrale Borzești.

OMV Petrom is the largest integrated energy producer in South-East Europe. The three projects entering execution are: Gura Văii wind park (50 MW) in Bacău county, Podu Turcului wind park (100 MW) in Bacău county, and Poiana wind park (155 MW) in Galați county. A fourth project, Galați wind park (657 MW), is yet to reach FID. OMV Petrom currently has 70 MW of renewable power in operation and over 1,100 MW under development, including solar and hydro projects.

This development matters for Romania's renewable energy expansion, where wind projects are critical to diversifying generation sources and reducing carbon intensity. OMV Petrom's objective is to have more than 2.5 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030 with partners.

For the wind energy industry, the execution phase represents a significant addition to Romania's onshore wind fleet. Stakeholders including equipment suppliers, construction contractors, and grid operators stand to benefit from project development. The staged production schedule from H1 2027 provides visibility for supply chain planning and power off-take arrangements.
