Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) SAOC has issued a competitive tender for the development and operation of an independent solar PV power plant integrated with a battery energy storage system at Al Kamil Wal Wafi in Oman.

OMAN —Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) SAOC has issued an international competitive tender for the development and operation of an Independent Solar PV Power Project and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Al Kamil Wal Wafi, designated as the Al Kamil II Solar PV IPP.

The comprehensive scope of work encompasses the complete development, engineering, procurement, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of an independent solar photovoltaic power plant integrated with a utility-scale battery energy storage system. The project aims to deliver clean, reliable electricity and grid stabilization services to support the national power system infrastructure.

Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) SAOC serves as the single buyer and aggregator of electricity and desalinated water in the Sultanate of Oman. The state-owned entity is responsible for procuring power and water generation capacity to meet growing national demand while driving the country's energy transition initiatives.

This initiative represents a key milestone in Oman's strategy to diversify its energy mix and accelerate renewable energy integration across the national grid. By combining solar photovoltaic technology with advanced battery storage systems, the project addresses renewable power intermittency and enhances grid resiliency.

The procurement supports national policy targets under Oman Vision 2040, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the electricity generation mix to 20 percent by 2030 and up to 39 percent by 2040. Implementing large-scale utility projects of this nature is vital for reducing reliance on natural gas for power generation.

For international investors, engineering contractors, and renewable energy developers, this project offers significant commercial opportunities in the Middle East energy sector. It highlights the growing adoption of integrated solar and storage solutions in utility-scale public procurement projects.
