Osisko Gold Group has approved full-scale construction for its Cariboo Gold Project in British Columbia, committing CAD 990 million in remaining capital. Supported by a strategic investment from Trafigura, the venture targets first gold production in early 2029.

CANADA Osisko Gold Group Inc. has formally sanctioned full-scale construction for its 100%-owned Cariboo Gold Project situated in central British Columbia, Canada. The board's affirmative investment decision initiates a 30-month development phase leading to an anticipated initial gold pour in the first quarter of 2029, followed by commercial production in the second half of that year. Remaining capital expenditures required to reach production are projected at CAD 990 million, accounting for prior outlays up to July 2026, equipment leasing arrangements, and projected contingencies. Total available funding and proposed capital sources are estimated at CAD 1.64 billion, underpinned by a cash balance of CAD 837 million and fresh financing initiatives.

Financial backing for the development receives a substantial boost through agreements finalized with commodity trading firm Trafigura. An affiliate of Trafigura has agreed to execute a strategic private placement valued at USD 30 million in exchange for common shares representing a 10% premium over the recent trading average. Furthermore, the partnership encompasses four-year off-take agreements covering 100% of the gold concentrate and doré output from the site, alongside non-binding terms for a subordinated prepayment facility of up to USD 120 million. These financial arrangements mitigate near-term liquidity pressures and secure a reliable commercial channel for future output.

The progression of this underground mining initiative holds substantial economic significance for the Canadian domestic mining sector and the regional economy of British Columbia. Construction activity is projected to generate over 600 direct peak employment positions, transitioning into hundreds of permanent operational roles. Beyond regional employment, the project highlights broader market trends in critical metals development, where senior mining entities rely on structured commodity streaming and strategic trade partnerships to de-risk large-scale capital deployments amidst inflationary pressures.

Osisko Gold Group Inc. is a Canadian exploration and development corporation focused on advancing mineral properties toward commercial production. Operating primarily within the precious metals sector, the organization centers its growth strategy on expanding its asset base and executing disciplined resource conversion programs. The firm's shares are publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange under the ticker symbol OGG.
