INDIA —Indian infrastructure and power solutions provider Pace Digitek Limited has secured a major energy storage mandate valued at INR 1.79 billion from electricity distribution utility BSES Rajdhani Power Limited. Under the terms of the Letter of Intent, the company will handle the design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and long-term operation and maintenance of a grid-connected Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project entails a total contracted capacity of 57.5 MW / 115 MWh distributed across four key grid substations in Delhi to support on-demand power distribution, with complete operational commissioning scheduled within 28 weeks of the final agreement.
This development marks a significant step forward in bolstering urban power grid resilience and integrating higher shares of variable renewable energy into localized distribution networks. Utility-scale battery storage capacity plays a crucial role in mitigating peak demand pressures, managing load variability, and offering critical frequency regulation services. By deploying storage infrastructure directly at key distribution substations, power utilities can effectively reduce transmission congestion and stabilize power quality across dense metropolitan areas.
The procurement underscores a broader regulatory and operational shift across India's energy sector toward decentralized energy storage systems to support clean energy integration goals. Discoms are increasingly leveraging BESS assets to balance peak demand-supply mismatches without heavy capital investments in conventional thermal peaking capacity. Equipment vendors, engineering firms, and system integrators specializing in energy storage technologies stand to gain substantial business opportunities as similar grid-modernization projects are rolled out nationwide.
Headquartered in Bengaluru, India, Pace Digitek Limited operates as a specialized turnkey solutions provider across the telecommunications, power, and renewable energy infrastructure sectors. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited functions as a joint venture utility providing power distribution services to over 2.7 million consumers across South and West Delhi.
