This initiative addresses critical long-term structural capacity constraints facing the Mumbai metropolitan area, where existing aviation infrastructure is projected to reach absolute capacity limits before mid-century. By establishing an offshore hub, planners aim to secure necessary aviation bandwidth without the steep land acquisition challenges typical of mainland developments.

The project is strategically positioned to integrate with major transit corridors. The proposed site sits less than five kilometres from the planned Uttan-Virar sea link, offering a direct transit artery to mainland Mumbai and its secondary airports.
